Uzbekistan marks 33rd anniversary of independence

TASHKENT, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — Tashkent hosted celebrations marking the 33rd anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence on Saturday, said the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
“In these emotional moments, we all more deeply realize the enormous, historical significance of our priceless asset — national independence,” Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his speech at the ceremony, as quoted by the statement.
The statement said that data from the International Monetary Fund revealed the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) surpassed 100 billion U.S. dollars for the first time in 2023. Also, the World Bank forecasts a 5.3 percent GDP growth for the country this year.
The statement further highlighted efforts to advance the social sector and establish a high-quality education system. It said that the future of the country and the realization of its noble aspirations depend on the knowledge and potential of its youth. ■
